Mexi-Vocabulario: ¿Quiubo?

As in what’s happening?¿Qué pasa? What’s up? How’s it going? How’s it hanging?

Or any other variety of greetings / inquiries meant to express interest and curiosity from the person utilizing this expression. You might hear it used loosely among friends, between strangers in mundane interactions, as a rhetorical question in the hustle and bustle of daily life, or even in the most unexpected of scenarios.

Technically this one word is a combination of two: que and ubo with an i added to differentiate from the more formal expression of these words together.

You might use this expression in these scenarios:

  • When you arrive at a family gathering and start saying hello to family, friends, acquaintences, or even people you are meeting for the first time.
  • At the grocery store when someone gives you the right of passage down a busy aisle.

  • When you’re greeting your food delivery driver at the door.
