Movie Review: Leonardo DiCaprio in ‘The Revenant’

Where to begin with The Revenant? There’s so much to say about this film it’s hard to decipher where to begin. Let’s start with the director, Alejandro González Iñárritu. Yes, the same Alejandro González Iñárritu who took home an Academy Award for his film Birdman last year. He’s mexicano so of course we wanted to support his latest film.

One of his other pictures – Babel – remains one of our all time favorites also.

In The Revenant he partners with Leonardo DiCaprio to deliver yet another stellar picture.

And let’s talk about Leonardo DiCaprio in this film. He does such a great job as the character Hugh Glass that there really aren’t adequate words to express the greatness of his performance. And on that note, let us just add that The Revenant is not for the faint of heart.

Whether it’s his very gritty fight with a grizzly bear, the scene where he literally builds a cocoon for himself inside the corpse of a horse, or when he tears through a piece of raw buffalo meat with nothing but his teeth and his hands, DiCaprio’s performance is absolutely very haunting. And that’s the thing about him as an actor. Over the years he has become very reliable as an actor who selects only great roles in great films.

And that’s why we knew this movie would of course be another favorite.

We won’t go too much into the story line because honestly that’s part of the surprise of The Revenant, but let’s just say it’s definitely worth watching!
