Certain things are just better in Spanish. Not that they’re not equally as satisfying in English, but there is just something a little extra special about them in the language of your preference. One of those things, of course, is fútbol!
The excitement of an announcer yelling ¡GOOOOOOOOOL! just can’t be compared to anything else. You feel the passion in his or her voice and you absolutely identify with the excitement of your team and their fans in the stadium. It’s the next best thing to being there in person yourself. Every single golazo is a major reason to celebrate, sometimes no matter the score.
For me, fùtbol is also about cheering on my two patrias, Mexico and the U.S.
This is especially true when we’re talking about major tournaments like the World Cup and Copa América. Claro, after learning Copa América Centenario is coming to the U.S. this year I have been counting down the days for the very first match on Friday, June 3.
It’s almost here!
What’s funny, though, is explaining that excitement to those who aren’t as familiar. Usually they just smile along like “sure, Copa América…” and then after a few seconds they’ll ask, “wait, what is that?” Which desde luego sets me up perfectly for explaining what it is in my very favorite way: “It’s like the Super Bowl for soccer,” I like to say.
Then people get it.

I prefer Spanish as you know, but I can go back and forth between languages as much as I want. That’s pretty cool, and should also come very handy when Edgar decides to join me in rooting on our teams. He does prefer English over Spanish, except for the actual matches. I think after years of hearing us yell and root for every single ¡GOOOOOOL!, hearing them in Spanish has kind of grown on him too.
To be honest, I didn’t realize XFINITY had so much great content around soccer. From Copa América, to the Summer Olympics, to the World Cup Qualifiers and UEFA EURO 2016, as well as all of the Major League Soccer matches during the summer, it’s certainly easy to see why it’s the ultimate entertainment experience for all fans. Regular season major league matches like Liga MX, La Liga, Premier Cup, MLS, Bundesliga, and more, can also be viewed on XFINITY.
