When words are hope

When words are hope

I am not one to follow trends, usually… or to keep up with them for that matter. As of late, however, I have noticed a rise in self-help advice all over the internet. Facebook and Instagram seem to attract this type of content especially. Or maybe it just seems that way because I am constantly checking those social media networks. Either way, this trend is one I really don’t mind. As long as the messages are inspiring, and not insulting or offensive to others, I’ll take them. Uplifting messages that can silence a room, or bring me to tears are my favorite.

I also find inspirational phrases with only two or three words especially hopeful.

Here are a few of my favorites:

“This too shall pass.”

As I have mentioned before, as an anxiety-ridden person – I am agoraphobic, so anxiety is basically my full time job – this saying has allowed me to breathe a little more calmly in the midst of an anxious episode.

“Pain is temporary”

If ever you have suffered physical or mental pain, which I believe we all have at some point in our lives, this quote is one you may have a special appreciation for as well.  As Mr. Lance Armstrong once so eloquently used it: “Pain is temporary. It may last a minute, or an hour, or a day, or a year, but eventually it will subside and something else will take its place. If I quit, however, it lasts forever.”

That quote pretty much explains it all.

“Trust yourself”

Just plain and simple, trust yourself. Trust that you will be fine. Trust that you will do good. Trust the initial thought you second-guessed. Trust your maternal instincts. Trust yourself to trust others.

Simple, strong, and powerful. Trust yourself.

In honor of this saying I made a sign that will now hang over the front door of our home, so that when I or my family walk out of our house, into the world, we will always have these hopeful words in our hearts and minds.
