Celebrating 100 Years of Mexican Cultura

We’ve spent a lot of time the last couple of months thinking about our Mexican heritage. Not that doing so is anything new around us. The difference as of late is that our contemplation has been less about our own individual upbringings and more about the rich cultural history of Mexico. I guess in all honesty being mexicanos is something we’re proud of, but also an identity that is more often than not associated with the culture instead of the heritage.

What I mean by that is that it’s easier to know that on the 16th of September es el Día del Grito de Independencia, in November Día de los Muertos, in December time for las posadas, and so on, and less so to understand exactly why these occasions are faithfully celebrated every year by mexicanos all over the world.

Cerveza Montejo and the pride the company takes in being auténticamente mexicana, however, has really inspired us to dig a little deeper and embrace that history in our own way. To that end we’ve commissioned the help of our good friend and photographer, Alejandro Montoya of @world4alex to help us bring to life some of the past 100 years of Mexican cultura. Selecting which moments to highlight was really the hardest part to accomplish, and in the end we based our decisions on the things we love most about Mexico’s long and tumultuous 10 most recent decades. We thought 100 years were appropriate because that’s also how long Cerveceria Modelo S. de R.L. de C.V. in Tuxtepec, Oaxaca, Mexico has been brewing Montejo. The photo sessions were so much fun, especially since we had never done anything like this before.

And the results, we are thrilled beyond words with!
